Crews are making “good progress” in cleaning up the mudslides on Pacific Coast Highway, according to Caltrans, and the roadway is expected to open back up shortly.
The closed area is expected to be accessible again starting at 6 a.m. Monday. Crews remained at the scene Sunday to clear mud at Peña Road.
The update was provided by Caltrans District 7 on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday.
On Saturday, Caltrans said mudslides forced officials to close the roadway between State Route 27 and Carbon Beach Terrace. The slides were brought on by early morning rain showers.
This portion of PCH, which links the Pacific Palisades and Malibu, is still on a “soft closure” due to damage from January’s Palisades Fire. According to Caltrans, the area is open only for “residents with burn scar passes, contractors, emergency responders and designated Metro, and school buses.”
