Previews of the CIF-SS football semifinals
All games Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
DIVISION 6
Dana Hills (10-2) vs. Glendora (8-4) at Citrus College
Outlook: The Dolphins are in the semifinals for the first time since 1991 when they finished as the CIF-SS Division 2 runner-up to Irvine. Dana Hills has recovered from a late slide in the Foxtrot League to win two close games in the playoffs. The Dolphins average 33 points behind QB Vanden Dugger (30 TDs) and RB Radley Geiss (1,368 yards). Glendora features a strong ground attack and a two-way standout in Austin Coronado. The senior is committed to Columbia.
DIVISION 10
Pacifica (7-5) at St. Anthony (7-5)
Outlook: The Mariners are seeking their first trip to the finals since 2007. To make it, they’ll need to beat the No. 1 seed at its off-campus athletic complex located at 4832 Clark Ave in Long Beach. Pacifica coach Kyle Murphy said the Saints are fast and physical. The Mariners are a well-balanced team but watch for senior Armando Torres, who has six interceptions and a team-high 30 receptions.
DIVISION 11
Baldwin Park (7-5) at Portola (6-6)
Outlook: The Bulldogs are home for the first time in the playoffs after knocking off No. 1 seed Don Lugo and Santa Paula. Portola coach Peter Abe compares Baldwin Park to Buena Park, who the Bulldogs edged 28-26 in the Omicron League. Abe said Baldwin Park passes more than Buena Park. Braves QB Jake Garcia has passed for 2,422 yards and rushed for 642. Portola, seeking its first trip to the section finals, will counter with a defense led by linebacker Maxwell Mapstone (149 tackles).
DIVISION 13
Anaheim (10-2) at Gahr (7-5)
Outlook: The Colonists have adjusted well under first-year coach Gus Martinez but will be challenged by the top-seeded Gladiators. Keep an eye on Anaheim QB Jason Garrett, who was banged up last week. The Colonists are trying to reach their first section final since 2006.
