BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Three children who were abducted in Augusta County, Virginia, Thursday morning were found in the Birmingham area, according to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 8:27 a.m., the ACSO was alerted to a kidnapping that had taken place at an apartment complex in Fisherville, where the caller’s three children were taken at the bus stop by an individual in a black four-door vehicle.
The children were identified as Jai’Marcus Lewis, 10 years old, Ja’Miya Lewis, 8 years old, and Ja’Liyah Lewis, 6 years old. An investigation determined that the individual responsible for their abduction was their biological mother, Shanice Chante Davison, 35, of Evergreen, Alabama.
At around 4:44 p.m., Alabama Law Enforcement Agency troopers located the vehicle on I-459 in Jefferson County and conducted a traffic stop.
All three children were found safe and unharmed. Davison was arrested for Fugitive from Justice and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Two other adults were also in the vehicle.
“The ACSO would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Virginia State Police, United States Marshall’s Office, The FBI, Alabama Highway Patrol, Evergreen Police Department and The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Hoover PD and the USMS Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force,” the ACSO said in a statement.
ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said, “In a world where time is of the essence, the swift action of
law enforcement and the vital intelligence from the Alabama Fusion Center, along with our
fellow counterparts across state lines, remind us that every second counts in the mission to
safeguard our children. I commend all of our personnel, as well as all of our fellow counterparts
in Virgina and Tennessee, and federal partners that worked tirelessly to ensure these three
children were found safe.”
