BOWIE, Md. (DC News Now) — Baseball is in full swing in Maryland after thousands of fans were on hand in Bowie on Tuesday night for the newly branded Chesapeake Baysox’s home opener.
Laterrance Perry from Glen Burnie brought his wife and three kids to the game to have a fun night watching baseball.
“Just being out here for the home opener is great with everybody getting to be here after not being here for a long time to see baseball, and everyone is excited, and I know,w and it is a thrill,” Perry said.
The Baysox are the Baltimore Orioles’ double A minor league team. For years, the team was called the Bowie Baysox, but General Manager Brian Shallcross said the organization adopted a new name to broaden its fan base to a wider region.
“First and foremost, fans are going to see all the improvements we’ve made to the stadium, including our new video boards, and we just announced a $50 million project to enhance this stadium and make it a premier stadium in the country,” Shallcross said.
On Tuesday night, the Baysox took on the Erie Seawolves in the stadium.
