Charli XCX will not only be producing the original music for Benito Skinner‘s Amazon comedy series Overcompensating, she’ll also flex her acting chops in a guest-starring role. Skinner teased she will appear on the show today on his Instagram and Amazon confirmed the casting. Details of her role were not revealed. You can see his post below.
Created by Skinner inspired by his life, Overcompensating is a college-set ensemble comedy about the wild, chaotic journey of Benny (Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, as he becomes fast friends with Carmen, a high school outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs. With guidance from Benny’s older sister and her campus-legend boyfriend, Benny and Carmen juggle horrible hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs. Deeply funny and personal, the show explores the lengths to which we all overcompensate while on the path to finding out who we really are.
Skinner writes and executive produces with Hill, Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin of Strong Baby. Charli XCX will serve as executive music producer. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Charli XCX’s casting news follows the June release of her sixth studio album Brat. As an actor, she’s also set to star opposite Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman in I Want Your Sex, Black Bear’s thriller from director Gregg Araki. She’s also co-executive producing the score for David Lowery’s forthcoming A24 film Mother Mary. She contributed the song “Speed Drive” to Barbie‘s soundtrack last year and also has penned tunes for The Fault in Our Stars and Bodies Bodies Bodies. Charli XCX is repped by CAA, Good World and Project Gold.
