Chance of weekend rain moves into the Southern California forecast

Below-average temperatures and morning drizzle appear to be setting the stage for some weekend showers across Southern California.

The region saw a significant drop in temperatures on Wednesday, with afternoon highs about 10 degrees below normal. Those cooler conditions should continue as we head toward the weekend, when things become even more unsettled.

“Look at Saturday morning … We get a wave of showers Saturday morning. Then we get some unsettled conditions into your Sunday morning as well,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is calling for rain totals to remain relatively low, but parts of Los Angeles County could receive one-tenth to one-third of an inch of rain.

KTLA’s Futurecast shows predicted moisture over Southern California for Saturday, April 26, 2025. (KTLA)

“Rain is likely across much of the region Sat, mainly in the morning across SLO and SBA Counties, and late morning into the afternoon across VTU and L.A. Counties,” the NWS stated in its Thursday forecast discussion.

Snow levels are expected to remain between 4,500 to 5,550 feet, with a few inches of snow falling above the 5,500 foot mark.

A warming trend is expected to bring temperatures closer to normal early next week.

Henry says the weather outlook is better for those heading to the Stagecoach music festival this weekend.

“Maybe you’re driving through drizzle or cloudy conditions and then you head over the mountains to get into the Coachella Valley, and all of a sudden it’s like a whole different world with the sunshine and warm weather. I think that’s what we’re looking at this weekend,” Henry said.
