WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A popular neighborhood festival in Northwest D.C. is celebrating a big milestone.
“It’s a tradition, it feels kinda like a legacy has started in our community. It’s something I truly look forward to,” said Fia Thomas, owner of Fia’s Fabulous Finds.
Fia Thomas is talking about Celebrate Petworth. The annual event, organized by Petworth Main Street, is celebrating its 10th year. Julie Wineinger said it’s amazing to see what it has grown into over the past decade.
“I remember the first year that Celebrate Petworth happened, it was just four of us basically meeting at someone’s house, planning for months and months to make it happen,” said Julie Wineinger, owner of Lulabelle’s Sweet Shop.
Over the last 10 years, Celebrate Petworth has blossomed. Now, thousands of people attend the event every year to enjoy the vendors, food and entertainment.
The event kicks off on 9th Street NW and Upsher Street on Saturday, Sept. 14. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the community can dive into the creativity, diversity, culture and celebrate the people of Petworth and its surrounding neighborhoods.
“Come and help us celebrate and see what a community that is filled with love, diversity, small business and with creativity and welcoming kids and pets is all about,” shared Thomas.
