Catholic priest warns ‘the stage is set’ for the rise of the Antichrist

A Catholic priest has issued a chilling warning that global events may be aligning in ways some theologians believe could prepare the world for the rise of the Antichrist.

The Antichrist is a figure in Christian theology believed to be a powerful deceiver who will oppose Jesus Christ and lead many people away from the faith before the end of the world.

Speaking on the Shawn Ryan Show, Father Chad Ripperger said: ‘The Antichrist has to be able to rule the world. He’s not going to rule through governance. He’s going to rule it through economies.’

He explained that several conditions described by early Church leaders appear to be unfolding in modern society.

Early Christian theologians taught that the Antichrist would emerge during a period of widespread moral collapse, something he believes has already been underway for decades.

‘That’s happened since the 1950s. There’s been an implosion where people just aren’t following the laws of God and of the natural law in any sense of the term,’ Ripperger said, agreeing that the ‘stage is set’ for the rise of the Antichrist.

He also warned that the Antichrist would not rise to power through politics alone, but through control of the global economy.

The Catholic priest said modern financial systems and emerging digital technologies could potentially create the kind of centralized economic control described in biblical prophecy.

‘That’s why they talk about the mark of the beast,’ he said. ‘Well, we’re almost there, where they could literally just decide, look, unless you’re going to sign off on certain things, you’re not going to have access to the digital currency that we’re going to enact worldwide.’

In Christian prophecy, the Antichrist is described as an end-times figure who will rise to global power as a charismatic but deceptive leader.

‘They say that the antichrist will be so charismatic, and unless a person has specific graces from God, you’re going to easily get sucked into what he teaches and what he professes,’ Ripperger told Ryan.

He added that the figure will reject Christ while presenting himself as humanity’s savior.

According to these interpretations, the Antichrist will be empowered by Satan, persecute believers and demand loyalty or worship.

Ripperger also said Christian prophecy describes two biblical figures returning to oppose the Antichrist before his downfall.

‘The two prophets that are in heaven, Elijah and Enoch, have to return… they actually return and preach against him,’ he said.

According to the priest, the pair are ultimately killed before Christ returns and defeats the Antichrist.

Scripture and later theological writings say he will appear during a period of global turmoil and instability.

Some interpretations suggest he will initially present himself as a peacemaker, brokering a fragile agreement in the Middle East before turning against Israel.

However, Ripperger said the Antichrist’s power would ultimately depend on a unified global economic system capable of controlling who can buy or sell.

Such control, he suggested, could be enforced through financial access tied to technology.

In the biblical Book of Revelation, a mysterious ‘mark of the beast’ is described as a system without which people cannot buy or sell.

Some modern interpreters believe future technologies could resemble that mechanism.

The priest said technology such as microchips or digital identification systems could theoretically fulfill that role.

‘So it’s going to be something in our bodies that will give us access to these particular things,’ he explained.

Early Church teachings describe the mark of the beast as the opposite of the spiritual mark believers receive during baptism.

In Catholic tradition, baptism leaves a permanent spiritual mark on a person’s soul, symbolizing that they belong to Christ.

During the sacrament, priests often trace the sign of the cross on a person’s forehead as a visible reminder of that consecration.

The mark of the beast, he said, is described by theologians as an inversion of that symbol, something placed on or within the body that signifies allegiance to a different authority.

According to this interpretation, the mark would function as a kind of identifier allowing people access to essential parts of society, including food, goods and financial systems.

‘I think that’s one of the ways how he’s going to control people is through digital currencies, and he’s going to just shut people off, and that’s how they’ll be able to basically starve people out if they’re unwilling to sign off on to Christ’s rules.’

Ryan asked how those who reject the mark of the beast would survive.

Ripperger said believers may face difficult choices.

‘You have to be willing to sacrifice the lesser good in order to achieve the greater good.

‘You have to be willing to I have to follow Christ regardless of the personal cost. Now God will also often provide for people.’

In Christian scripture, the Antichrist is described as a powerful adversary who will appear before the return of Jesus.

Interpretations of how and when that prophecy might unfold have varied widely throughout history.

Ripperger stressed that he cannot say with certainty that such events are imminent.

‘I don’t think that he’s just immediately around the corner,’ he said. ‘But I could be wrong in that.’

Still, he warned that rapid technological change and shifting global systems may be bringing humanity closer to the conditions described in ancient prophecies.
