BALTIMORE, Md. (DC News Now) — On the Maryland U.S. Senate campaign trail, Republican Larry Hogan and Democrat Angela Alsobrooks are racking up some key endorsements.
This week, Hogan met with leaders of the state’s Jewish community and has another meeting scheduled for the weekend during these High Holidays.
The former two-term governor also pulled down the endorsement of the 20,000-member Maryland Fraternal Order of Police.
Clyde Boatwright, president of the FOP, says his group supported Hogan’s record during his tenure at the State House.
“He’s always been a champion for law enforcement,” said Boatwright. “When other people have decided to defund law enforcement, he decided to fund law enforcement.”
“I’m glad to have their support,” said Hogan, “because I think it’s a top issue in the campaign because the average person is very concerned about crime in their communities where they don’t feel safe.”
Alsobrooks has earned some endorsements of her own this week.
The Washington Post wrote that Alsobrooks “wants to restore collegiality and lower the political temperature” in Washington.
Alsobrooks said she was honored “to have the conversation [with the newspaper’s editorial board] to talk about my vision for Maryland and to have that resonate in a way that earned the endorsement.”
Meanwhile, Hogan told his FOP supporters that he watched the vice-presidential debate this week and “liked the fact that it was civil. They had strong disagreements on the issues but they were gentlemanly. It’s the kind of politics that I’ve been talking about.”
The Sierra Club also backed Alsobrooks this week citing her commitment to “protecting the environment and fighting climate change.”
And to close out the week, former President Barak Obama posted on “X” that “control of the Senate could come down to Maryland, so vote Angela Alsobrooks.”
Alsobrooks takes her campaign to western Maryland with stops Saturday in Frederick and Hagerstown.
