Homicide detectives alongside family and friends of a 14-year-old girl strangled to death in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles more than 19 years ago pleaded with the public Tuesday for help solving her murder.
Emmery Munoz’s body was found in the loading dock area of a business located on the 1500 block of Mirasol Street on Jan. 25, 2006, the Los Angeles Police Department shared in an update on its investigation.
The young teen was last seen alive on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, in the City Terrace neighborhood of East Los Angeles.
“This investigation has spanned over nineteen years and detectives have been unable to
obtain any substantial leads in this cold case homicide,” police said Tuesday.
The motive for the “senseless homicide” is also unknown and no suspects have been identified.
“The pain is the same as just like it happened yesterday,” Emmery’s mother Maria Mejia told the LAist in a 2023 interview. “I am hoping that somebody will come through now, that somebody comes forward. Maybe they were afraid to speak at the time.”
LAist also took part in a joint venture to produce a podcast titled “Party Crews: The Untold Story” that took a deeper look at the details surrounding Emmery’s murder.
