Buena Park and football coach David Prieto have “mutually” agreed to part ways, the fourth-year coach said Monday.
Prieto said he resigned to devote more time a Nutrishop in Brea that he purchased in early July and to his family, which includes two children under 10.
Prieto called his resignation a “tough decision” but said he is proud of what the Coyotes accomplished.
“The job is a lot more attractive than when I took it,” he said.
Buena Park finished 0-10 in Prieto’s first season but improved to 3-7 the next year, snapping the school’s 22-game losing streak along the way.
In 2023, Buena Park went 6-6 and reached the CIF-SS Division 12 quarterfinals.
Last season, Buena Park shifted to the Omicron League. The Coyotes finished 4-6 overall, 2-3 in league and missed the playoffs.
The Omicron emerged as one of the surprise leagues in Orange County with the rise of league champion Pacifica and Portola’s run to CIF-SS and CIF SoCal Regional titles.
Buena Park played both teams tough, losing 45-38 to Pacifica and 28-26 to Portola.
