At least seven ducklings were in need of help when they were spotted trying to cross a busy road in Irvine over the weekend.
“Sunday, patrol and animal services officers were dispatched to a call regarding something running a-fowl near Irvine Center Drive and Jeffrey,” the Irvine Police Department posted on its Facebook page Monday.
Arriving officers found the small brood of ducklings trying to dodge traffic while waddling across the road without their mother.
The officers managed to corral the ducklings, which did not appear to be injured, and place them into a box before determining what to do next.
“The mom abandoned them, so we helped them find a new home at a wildlife sanctuary,” police said.
The Police Department reminded the pubic to call officers if a wild animal needs help instead of trying to do it themselves. “That includes trying to direct traffic,” the post read.
