A BRITISH skier has died after suffering a cardiac arrest while traversing the slopes.
The 49-year-old man was descending a piste on the Claviere slopes in northern Italy when his heart suddenly stopped beating.
The January 4, Alpine tragedy took place at around 10.50am as the man collapsed without warning.
An urgent response from ski patrol teams was launched as they carried emergency CPR on the Brit and used a defibrillator, according to local media reports.
A helicopter rescue team from Azienda Zero also rushed to the scene due to the hard to reach location on the slopes.
Despite their best efforts, the Brit was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was later taken to hospital in Susa in the city of Turin before his body was laid to rest.
Claviere ski resort is a popular holiday destination for tourists looking to hit the slopes.
It sits in the small, traditional village of Claviere on the border between Italy and France.
The entire length of the slope is 400km and is often seen as a great place for beginners to learn how to ski.
This latest tragedy comes only weeks after another British skier, aged 24, died in the French Alps when he plunged nearly 300 feet down a steep off‑piste run.
The tragic ski accident comes just weeks on from another Brit dying on the slopes.
A 24-year-old holidaymaker had been traversing down the ice with a group of friends before he plunged almost 1,000ft down a steep off-piste slope.
Horrified members of the group sounded the alarm before two ski patrollers rushed to the scene.
They discovered that the Brit had suffered a cardiac arrest and was now unconscious.
Back in February, another young Brit was found dead at the foot of a cliff at a popular ski resort in the French Alps.
The lifeless body of the 23-year-old was found in Avoriaz, which sits on a shelf above the town of Morzine.
The man was understood to have been skiing with pals before partying at a popular après-ski spot called La Folie Douce.
It is thought he then decided to ski down the mountainside alone before he got lost.
Friends raised the alarm when he didn’t return to his accommodation.
Search and rescue teams scoured the area for the Brit before discovering his body the following day.
