A BOY has been rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by a city centre tram.

A huge emergency response arrived at the Crossacres tram stop in Wythenshawe, Manchester, at around 3.30pm today.

It is understood the boy, whose age has not been confirmed, was pulled from beneath the tram by rescue services.

Witnesses claimed he was dragged beneath the Metrolink service as the horror unfolded.

Paramedics rushed him to hospital with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

As reported by the M.E.N, one local mother said: “It’s just so sad, I’m so sorry for the parents of that boy.”

Another neighbour added: “I just heard all the sirens – the police, ambulance, helicopter that landed across the road.

“It was completely shocking, I only found out what happened later and it’s just horrible.”

A cordon remains in place at the scene amid ongoing police investigations.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Emergency services are currently responding to reports of a serious incident on the tram network at Crossacres tram stop in Wythenshawe.

“A boy was struck by a tram and has been taken to hospital with life-changing and potentially life-threatening injuries.

“Trams to Manchester Airport have been suspended whilst emergency service personnel conduct their enquiries.”
