A TWO-year-old boy has died after taking a horror plunge from the 20th floor of an apartment window in New Jersey, police say.
Local cops received reports of an injured toddler just before 7am on Saturday before emergency services rushed to the building.
The boy was tragically pronounced dead at the scene after authorities raced to Elizabeth Tower in Newark.
He is believed to have fallen from the window of his parents’ top floor flat.
Authorities are now probing the full circumstances of the child’s 20-storey fall.
Neighbors who lived in the same building revealed their agony over the tot’s heartbreaking death, with some alleging that the tragedy could have been avoided.
One Elizabeth Tower resident told News 12 that there were problems getting things repaired at the apartment.
She claimed: “They don’t have enough help, I’ll say it, to get things done.”
Devastating footage shows the aftermath of the boy’s terrifying plunge, with police tape lining the perimeter and emergency services covering up an open window on the 20th floor.
Local residents who spoke with local media claimed the boy’s family was from Ghana.
One emotional neighbor described the child as “my little bro”.
They told NBC New York: “I really love him. I’m really sad. My heart is broken.
“A couple of days [ago], I was just playing right here with him.”
They also alleged: “This building is old, and it needs to be renovated.”
Another resident told CBS News: “The window is big, it’s really big.”
But they claimed that their own windows were not dangerous.
“My windows are safe. Before I moved in, I made sure they put up the barricade,” they said, referring to the window guards installed in their flat.
Police are appealing with the public for anyone holding information to come forward.
It comes after a teenager’s drive in California ended in horror after her car plunged off a cliff.
The crash killed the young girl’s father, who was teaching her how to drive, according to police.
