SILVER SPRING, Md. (DC News Now) — A man who was accused of killing his father in their Montgomery County home will face a judge for a bond hearing on Wednesday.
“This is a very sad story,” said neighbor Mekonen Ambaye. “This has been a very quiet neighborhood. We didn’t have any issues like this. We never had any crimes, for that matter. But this is, a big deal for us.”
On Monday, Oct. 21, neighbors were devastated when they learned 88-year-old David Newsome was found dead in his home with trauma to the body.
“I saw about five police cars one of them had their last lights on. I saw they were at my neighbor’s house and I was questioning what was going on,” one neighbor told DC News Now.
“It’s pretty crazy, it’s sad to know that we have this kind of activity in our neighborhood,” another neighbor added.
On Tuesday, hours later, the victim’s son 48-year-old Fabian Newsome was arrested in connection to his father’s death. Both of them lived inside the home together.
Police have not confirmed a motive or determined the exact cause of Newsome’s death.
Fabian was charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
Ambaye said no matter the reason behind the incident, he was saddened by the situation.
“At any moment when somebody dies or something happens like this, it is a sad story for the family and for the neighborhood. Until we know what happened regardless of the cause, it is a very sad story. I hope the family solves the problem. [As] for the neighborhood, it’s not good news,” he explained.
Fabian’s bond hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, and a preliminary hearing will be held on Nov. 15.
