It’s Bobby Brown’s prerogative to express his opinion, especially if it’s about one of his hit songs.
The New Edition member revealed that he’s not a fan of Britney Spears’s rendition of his hit 1988 song “My Prerogative.” The Pop Princess released her version in 2004 for her album “Greatest Hits: My Prerogative.”
Brown revealed his feelings in a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast “Club Shay Shay,” and he didn’t hold back.
He said the “Toxic” singer “butchered” his hit song.
“That was a butchering, I couldn’t take it,” he confessed.
The singer said he only cleared Spears to use the song because he thought record producer Teddy Riley was producing it. The song ended up being produced by Swedish Production duo Bloodshy & Avant.
Brown went on to explain that the entire experience was a lesson learned.
“I gotta hear it [in order for it to be cleared] because you don’t know what these kids will say these days. These kids say some s–t that… you don’t want your song associated with it.”
