Maggie is a celebrity chef, author and restaurateur who received the Order of Australia in 2012 for her contributions to the food and tourism industry.
She was best known as one of the judges on The Great Australian Bake Off alongside Matt Moran until she left in 2022.
Maggie also co-hosted the ABC television cooking program The Cook and The Chef with Simon Bryant for a time and made guest appearances on MasterChef Australia.
More recently, the beloved cook began filming for a new ABC series in Western Australia last year, with a focus on the dining experiences in aged care facilities.
Maggie lives with her husband Colin, who she married in 1970, in their small Barossa Valley home in South Australia.
They share two daughters, with the eldest, Saskia, dying suddenly in her sleep aged 46 in February 2020.

Speaking to The Australian Women’s Weekly in May 2023, Maggie recalled how she turned to her own kitchen as a place of comfort when her daughter died.
‘I wanted to give back, and that helped me through [the grief]. I did all these Cooking with Maggie videos. Just my assistant with a phone and me. For a while, I did them every day,’ she explained.
‘Nothing helps you through the rawness. Nothing. But when you’re doing something you love, that you can give to other people… It’s about having a purpose, and that purpose has helped as much as it is possible to be helped.’
Maggie, who shares another daughter named Elli with her husband, also relied on professional counselling and the support of her family to get her through this difficult time.

‘No one wants to experience this. I badly needed help, and the help is to understand that you never get through grief, but it comes alongside you and you continue on with life, and eventually you find joy again,’ she noted.
Saskia was a chef and entrepreneur who owned a free range poultry farming business.
Her memory lives on as her family has created the Saskia Beer Churchill Fellowship.
The Fellowship helps young people interested in food and farming to foster and develop that passion.
