WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Officials said four people are now without a place to live after a fire erupted at an apartment building in Northwest D.C. overnight.
In a post on the X platform, the DC Fire and EMS Department (DCFD) said on Wednesday, Oct. 16, around 1:30 a.m., crews responded to a box alarm in the 900 block of New Jersey Avenue.
There, firefighters found flames coming from the balcony of an apartment on the eighth floor. As crews worked to contain the fire, people who lived on the floor sheltered in place.
Around 2 a.m., the fire was contained and no one was hurt.
The fire department said the American Red Cross was contacted to assist four people, who were displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
