AN asylum seeker accused of murdering a worker at a migrant hotel was seen “having a good time” with pals hours after the attack, a court heard yesterday.

Housing officer Tyler English said Sudan-born Deng Chol Majek had “seemed sad” and “in a trance” beforehand, apparently staring at where Rhiannon Skye Whyte, 27, was working last October.

Mr English said: “Normally what I do around that time is just check the morale of everybody that’s there.

“That’s when I noticed he wasn’t in the best of moods, so I asked, ‘are you ok?’ to which there was no response.”

He added: “His mood was very low.

“He almost seemed sad.”

Majek is accused of following her after her shift ended at 11pm and stabbing her 23 times with a screwdriver on a deserted rail platform in Walsall, West Mids.

Mr English rushed to the scene when she was found and on his return saw Majek listening to music in the car park of the Park Inn hotel.

He added: “His mood was definitely a lot better.”

Majek, reportedly 19, denies murder.

The trial at Wolverhampton crown court continues.
