(NewsNation) — As Hurricane Milton exits Florida, the National Hurricane Center is continuing to monitor another system in the Atlantic, which is not expected to make landfall or come close to the U.S.
According to the National Hurricane Center’s 5 p.m. Thursday advisory, Tropical Storm Leslie was about 1,710 miles west-southwest of the Azores, a group of islands in the mid-Atlantic.
The storm is expected to turn north tonight and veer away from the U.S. over the next few days.
“Rapid weakening is forecast to continue during the next day or so, and Leslie is forecast to lose tropical characteristics in a few days,” the NHC said in its latest update.
There have also been false rumors on social media of a “Hurricane Nadine” heading toward Central Florida. Nadine is indeed the next name on the list of tropical storms for 2024, but as of right now, nothing has developed.
“I don’t see anything that’s coming our way anytime soon,” said Justin Mosley, a meteorologist at NewsNation affiliate Suncoast News Network.
So far, there have been 13 named storms in the 2024 hurricane season, which lasts until the end of November.
Two weeks ago, Hurricane Helene hit the Big Bend region of Florida as a Category 4 storm, killing more than 200 people and leaving a wake of destruction in its path.
Now, at least 10 people are dead after Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm Wednesday night. More than 3 million homes and businesses were without power in Florida on Thursday.
