The same cold weather forcing Monday’s presidential inauguration to be moved indoors for the first time in 40 years is likely to keep a lot of New Yorkers indoors too.
Following what’s predicted to be a rainy Saturday with a high of 45 degrees, temperatures are expected to drop as an arctic cold front visits the Atlantic Coast.
Sunday is when “things get interesting,” according to Weather Channel meteorologist Jennifer Grey. An area of low pressure will reportedly develop offshore, blanketing New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
While Sunday is expected to start with a mix of sun and clouds, New Yorkers could see rain begin to fall in the afternoon before turning into snow as temperatures dive into the low 20s. Widespread snowfall of between 2 and 4 inches is possible by 1 a.m. Monday, according to AccuWeather.
The Weather Channel is warning of slick roads and possible travel delays.
Monday, with a high of just 25 and a low reaching around 10 degrees, is predicted to mark the beginning of a prolonged period of frigid conditions. Wednesday is expected to be the coldest day of next week, with a high of only 18 degrees.
Temperatures will finally rise above freezing on Friday.
