‘We are thrilled to announce that the brand-new film of the globally beloved and successful Angry Birds franchise is to be in production,’ Shuji Utsumi, President and COO at Sega, said the press release.
‘We believe that the upcoming The Angry Birds Movie 3 perfectly aligns with our strategy and presents a great opportunity for us to bring the charm of the Angry Birds brand to fans across the globe.’
Continuing the momentum from the first two Angry Birds movies, the upcoming installment aims to build on their combined global box office success, which has exceeded half a billion dollars.
Alongside Sudeikis and Gad, the star-studded voice cast for both films featured Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage, with several of them reprising their roles in the 2019 sequel.
The first Angry Birds Movie was released in 2016, taking advantage of the widespread popularity of Rovio’s mobile gaming franchise.
No release date has been disclosed yet for The Angry Birds Movie 3.
The announcement comes after Ryan Gosling claimed the success of The Angry Birds Movie is the reason why his and Russell Crowe’s buddy cop comedy The Nice Guys never got a sequel.
Both films hit theaters on May 20, 2016, with the animated Angry Birds movie dominating the opening weekend box office, earning $39 million.

In contrast, The Nice Guys trailed behind, securing fourth place with just over $11 million in ticket sales.
Despite The Nice Guys setting up a potential sequel with its conclusion hinting at the duo starting their detective agency, Gosling revealed to ComicBook.com that the film’s fate was ultimately determined by its box office performance.
‘So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds,’ Gosling explained.
‘So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.’
