Angel City FC says a young player is “responsive and undergoing further evaluation” following a frightening on-field medical event during a match on Friday night.
20-year-old Savy King, who is a local to the Los Angeles area and played high school soccer at Agoura High School, went down in the 74th minute of Angel City’s game against Utah Royals FC at BMO Stadium.
It’s not yet clear why she went down, but Fox News reports that CPR appeared to be administered and an AED was used. After about 10 minutes, King was stretchered off the pitch.
The team later said in a statement that King was transported to a local hospital, where she is responsive.
At about 11:09 a.m. Saturday, the NWSL issued a statement to say that King remained in stable condition.
Both teams joined together in prayer after King left the field of play.
The match continued, resulting in a 2-0 win for Angel City.
King was the second overall pick by Bay City FC in the 2024 NWSL Draft. She was traded to Angel City just before the season began.
