A statewide Amber Alert has been issued for two young girls who are missing out of Kings County and considered to be in danger.

Aryana Maldonado, 3, and her sister, Alana, 2, are believed to be with their father, 23-year-old Jonathan Maldonado Cruz, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Cruz is suspected of shooting and killing the girls’ mother early Tuesday morning in Hanford, located about 200 miles north of Los Angeles, the Kings County Sheriff’s Department said. He has not been seen since.

Authorities believe he may be taking his children to Mexico in a gray 2020 Hyundai Elantra with license plates 8LZD084.

He’s described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 215 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous, officials added.

Alana, 2, and Arya, 3, were allegedly taken from their home in Hanford by their father, who is believed to have shot and killed his ex-girlfriend on Jan. 27, 2025. (California Highway Patrol)

Both Alana and Arya have brown hair and brown eyes and weigh around 25 pounds. It is unknown what clothes the girls might have been wearing when they were taken.

Anyone with information about Cruz or the two missing girls is urged to immediately call 911.
