LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Amazon is set to close its Amazon Go store in Woodland Hills later this month as it scales back locations nationwide, presumably due to poor sales.

The store, located on Ventura Boulevard at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, will close on Feb. 26, an Amazon spokesperson told C-Store Dive.

“(The) spokesperson declined to share why the company is closing this store, only noting that it’s being shut down after a portfolio assessment,” the tech business publication reported.

Amazon launched the Go concept, which offers shoppers a cashier-less experience, in 2018. At its peak in 2023, it had approximately 30 stores across the United States. Today, only 16 remain.

The Woodland Hills location had been open for three years. All 10 employees will be let go, Amazon stated in a California WARN notice.

“The company had very high hopes that Amazon Go was going to revolutionize the retail world in the brick-and-mortar sense … However, it just has not worked out,” said KTLA consumer reporter David Lazarus.

Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods locations will not be affected by the closure.

The news comes as Amazon marks the 20th anniversary of its popular Prime membership service.
