Alleged street racers hit, kill woman in South Los Angeles

A hit-and-run crash involving a driver suspected of street racing left a woman dead on Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. in the area of Normandie Avenue and 66th Street in South L.A. Police claim that the drivers of a grey Dodge Charger and a dark colored Chevrolet Tahoe were street racing while traveling southbound on Normandie.

At that point, a woman crossing Normandie outside of an unmarked crosswalk when she was hit by the driver of the grey Charger.

The Charger’s driver fled the scene after making contact.

The woman, who remains unidentified as of Sunday afternoon, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Now, LAPD is seeking identification of the driver of the Charger. As part of the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund run by the city of L.A., a reward of up to $50,000 for community members that can provide information leading to the “offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.”
