ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — An Alexandria restaurant is serving up a new special to honor the miraculous Hail Mary at the end of Sunday’s Commanders win against the Chicago Bears.
The play, a game-winning touchdown from Jayden Daniels to Noah Brown, came as the clock expired in Washington’s sixth, and most unlikely win, of the 2024 season.
Holy Cow in Del Ray is now serving the “Hail Mary Burger” as its “Burger of the Moment” for the week. The burger, which has honey BBQ, cheddar cheese, bacon, onion rings and a fried egg, is the latest in a series of sports-related burgers the restaurant has offered.
“I feel like we’re back in an era of Commanders football and people in Washington are happy about football again,” said Bill Blackburn, who owns the restaurant.
Blackburn said Holy Cow came out with burgers when the Capitals won the Stanley Cup, the Nationals won the World Series and Dan Snyder sold the football franchise. But Commanders fans said the latest burger is a sign of their excitement.
“It has been a long time coming,” said Sonya Smith, a lifelong Commanders fan. “We have been waiting so long for a moment like this. Yay for the Hail Mary.”
But as exciting as the moment is for Commanders fans, there are Bears fans who can’t quite stomach the new burger — or rewatching the moment that inspired it.
“I’m sure the burger is good, but I cannot recommend it,” said Sheryl Jahns of Alexandria, a Bears fan.
