SPOILER ALERT: The following reveals a major plot point from tonight’s episode of FX‘s What We Do In The Shadows.
FX’s What We Do In The Shadows featured Alexander Skarsgard in tonight’s episode “Come Out and Play.” He was dressed in all black and wore vampire fangs, much like his True Blood character Eric Northam did across the HBO show’s 7 seasons.
Of his appearance, Skarsgaard shared, “I’m afraid I have no recollection of shooting this episode as Dr. Laszlo Cravensworth [Matt Barry] apparently hypnotized me at the wrap party. But I did wake up with an intense physical attraction to Dr. Cravensworth and found his extraordinary wit, charm and intelligence absolutely disarming. I have since started a YouTube fan page for him. It’s called ‘Because you’re Cravens-worth it’ Please like, follow and subscribe.”
Albeit a brief appearance, seeing Skarsgard reappear as a vampire who looks similar (but sounds different) to the Sheriff—hello, copyrights— was the icing on the cake. What better way to amp fans up for the final two episodes than orchestrating a royal vampire rumble? The answer could be a Vampire Council episode jam-packed with appearances but there’s still time to wish for that. The final two episodes are: “The Promotion” (Dec. 9) and “The Finale” (Dec. 16).
Skarsgard is the latest actor who has played a vampire in TV or film to appear on What We Do In The Shadows. Others have included executive producers Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, reprising the roles of Viago von Dorna Schmarten Scheden Heimburg and Vladislav the Poker, respectively, and Jonathan Brugh as Deacon Brucke, from the film of the same name that inspired the long-running comedy series.
Additional guest stars with prior vampiric experience include Skarsgard’s True Blood co-star Evan Rachel Wood, Only Lovers Left Alive‘s, Tilda Swinton, Danny Trejo, who has played the fanged beings three times on screen including, most famously, in From Dusk Till Dawn, Blade star Wesley Snipes, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Paul Reubens. Incredibly enough, all of the above including Waititi, Clement and Brugh appeared together in the Season 1 episode “The Trial,” aka the famous Vampire Council episode.
Additional guest stars with non-fang street cred include Benedict Wong, Mark Hamill, Haley Joel Osmond and Scott Bakula, to name a few.
While the episode “The Promotion” is giving heavy Guillermo De La Cruz (Harvey Guillen) vibes, could we see his dream come true to share the screen with Antonio Banderas reprising a character similar to Armand from Interview with the Vampire? Or maybe a Buffy the Vampire Slayer-ish character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar? Stay tuned…
