Abbie Chatfield has been branded ‘cheap’ and a ‘tight a**’ after admitting she doesn’t give a gift to newlyweds at weddings.
The former Bachelor star, 29, shared a video on TikTok last week discussing the expectation for wedding guests to give more generously than for birthdays.
‘First of all, I didn’t know wedding gifts were even compulsory. Birthday gifts aren’t compulsory. You know what I mean?’ she said.
‘Baby shower, I actually understand because you’re gonna have a baby, you need things.
Abbie then argued that the high cost of weddings shouldn’t dictate the generosity of gifts and suggested that if guests find the financial demands of attending a wedding too much, they should not be invited.
‘It’s not my fault you decided to spend $70,000 on a wedding. Why do I owe you? Don’t invite me, then,’ she added.
‘I also come from a family that aren’t like, present heavy. So, I find this whole thing so weird. I’m actually in shock. $100 a lot of money, is it not?’
Disgruntled fans took to the comments and assured Abbie that it’s ‘normal’ to pay money as a gift often to cover a person’s seat at reception.

‘Weddings cost $200 a head and I’m being conservative. so $150-200 for a gift to cover your head is pretty normal,’ one user wrote.
In another video, Abbie hit back at the commenter’s expectation of making a financial contribution to a wedding and questioned why she should pay for someone else’s nuptials.
She said that if the bride or groom-to-be values her presence, she should attend out of love, not because she’s expected to cover costs.
‘Why am I paying for your wedding? Why am I paying for someone else’s wedding?’ she asked the follower.
‘You either want me there because you love me, and therefore I shouldn’t be expected to pay for your wedding and chip in, like it’s a f**king Groupon, or like it’s a f**king GoFundMe, or it’s that you only want me there and you’re trying to get numbers up to try and pay back the wedding that you wanted.’

Abbie went on to criticise wedding guests contributing to the wedding expenses, describing it ’embarrassing’ and inappropriate.
‘I’ve never been to a wedding where people are expected to give the amount per head that it costs them. Like, That’s so fucking embarrassing. I’m so sorry. That is so embarrassing for everyone involved.
‘And if you want to have that wedding, then you should pay for it and expect nothing in return.’

Fans raged in the comments and said giving money has nothing to do with ‘paying for someone’s wedding’, rather gifting them as part of a new chapter in their lives as a couple.
‘You don’t look at it as “paying for someone’s wedding” it isn’t that… it’s a gift, as they are starting off their new life and as a friend or family you surely would want to gift them something,’ someone said.
‘Weird take, the average wedding costs 65k in Aus & even $150 gifted per head wouldn’t even cover that. It’s like rocking up to a party empty handed, most bring a plate or the drinks it’s pretty simple,’ wrote another.

‘Disagree. If you go out for a bougie dinner you pay for it. If your friend turns 30 you buy them a nice gift? I personally think putting $150 is etiquette and gratitude in my opinion,’ one fan commented.
Meanwhile, comedian Jon-Bernard Kairouz’s grandmother weighed in, calling her a ‘tight ass’.
‘It’s good to help the young couple … It’s not nice to not help,’ she said.
‘You’re embarrassing! Just give them a couple of 100 [dollars]. Don’t be cheap.’
Abbie is currently dating Peking Duk frontman Adam Hyde and recently revealed her sexual kinks while promoting a new pleasure kit designed for exploration in the bedroom.
Sitting down with Body and Soul for an Instagram video, Abbie was asked a series of racy questions.
When choosing between being blindfolded or handcuffed, Abbie excitedly said, ‘Oh, blindfolded. I like not knowing what’s going to happen next.
‘Also, minimal admin. I don’t have to do anything, because I can’t,’ she added.
The next question asked Abbie to choose between a vibrator and a butt plug, and she said she’s take ‘a vibrating butt plug’ if she had the option.
When asked whether she would prefer average sex daily or amazing sex once a week, Abbie immediately said the latter.
‘But I have amazing sex four times a day, so I don’t really relate to that’ she added.
Elsewhere, the realty star said she loves public displays of affection, revealing her boyfriend Adam Hyde, ‘licks my neck at dinner’.
