An abandoned newborn baby was found next to a dumpster in Riverside on Sunday afternoon, police confirmed to KTLA.
The Riverside Police Department said a call came in around 2:20 p.m., saying a baby was found lying on the ground next to the dumpster at an apartment complex on the 3800 block of Jackson Street.
Details are limited, and officials did not immediately reveal the gender or age of the infant. Unconfirmed reports said the baby had its umbilical cord cut out.
Paramedics responded and transported the baby to a hospital. As of 4 p.m., police said the baby was in stable condition.
Police did not initially have any information on who abandoned the newborn, and said an investigation is underway.
