A MAJOR A-road has been closed in both directions after a serious collision.
Cops and emergency services rushed to the scene on the A1 northbound near Claypole, Lincolnshire, in the early hours of the morning.
The road remains shut in both directions between Barrowby, which is near Grantham, and Balderton, several miles north.
Commuters are now facing lengthy delays this morning as part of the major dual-carriageway shut.
Rush hour traffic has been severely impacted as frustrated motorists saw their journeys slow to a crawl.
Lincolnshire Police and other emergency services remain at the scene, said National Highways.
The road is part of a major commuter route for those working in Lincoln, around 30 miles away, and Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
A diversion is in place for these motorists but the detour through the fringes of Nottinghamshire will add significant time to journeys this morning.
National Highways said: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
