Seoul-based Finecut has picked up international sales rights for A Girl With Closed Eyes, ahead of the film’s Toronto market screening and Busan world premiere.
The thriller-drama follows a murder suspect and a detective with a shared past, reunited through the murder of a bestselling author. A Girl With Closed Eyes is the debut feature from Chun Sun-young, whose short film Good Night was invited to Cannes Critics’ Week.
The film stars Kim Min-ha, known for her leading role of Sun-ja in Apple TV+’s Pachinko. In A Girl With Closed Eyes, she plays the role of a suspect accused of killing a famous writer, insisting he was her kidnapper back in 2002. The role of the detective is played by Moon Choi (Deliver Us From Evil, Okja).
A Girl With Closed Eyes is presented by Solaire Partners LLC, a venture capital firm that has backed box office hits including Parasite, Extreme Job and 12:12: The Day.
At Toronto, Finecut is also repping Hong Sang-soo‘s By The Stream, which premiered in-competition at Locarno and won the Best Performance Award for Kim Min-hee. The film will screen in the Centrepiece section at Toronto. The company will also present Noise at a market screening under Toronto’s Industry Select. The film will have its world premiere in the Panorama competition section at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.
Finecut will also rep Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning, which had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The film is an animated adaptation of a best-selling Korean novel that follows a doctor-turned-priest who must protect a naïve yet powerful child from his corrupt master.
