LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Multiple protests have occurred across Southern California for the second straight day to mark the “A Day Without Immigrants” movement.

Businesses nationwide, including California, have also shut their doors on Monday in solidarity. People are also encouraged not to work or take their children to school or shop, according to social media posts.

The national movement is meant to highlight immigrants’ role in the U.S. economy and protest recent anti-immigrant policies from the Trump administration.

According to estimates from the Center for Migration Studies of New York, about 8.3 million undocumented immigrants are employed in the U.S., making up more than 5% of the country’s workforce.

Similar demonstrations were nationwide in 2017 in protest of President Trump’s plans to build a border wall and deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
