WASHINGTON — PlayStation users who purchased video games on the PlayStation Store may be eligible for refunds as maker Sony plans to settle a 2023 class action lawsuit.
The lawsuit accused Sony of monopolizing the market, which made PlayStation users pay more for games, Saveri Law Firm LLP alleged in a press release.
Sony is settling for $7.85 million while not admitting to any wrongdoing. The court has not decided if any laws were violated.
Here’s what you need to know about the potential settlement.
Who is eligible for the settlement?
Anyone who bought a video game from this list between April 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2023, is eligible to be part of the settlement.
Games include the “Ratchet & Clank Collection,” “The Last of Us” chapter one and two, “God of War: Origins Collection,” “The Jackbox Party Pack” series, “Call of Duty: Classic,” and many others.

What to do next
PlayStation users have three options: do nothing, exclude yourself from the settlement, object to the settlement.
- Do nothing: If you do nothing, you will still be included in the settlement proceedings. By doing nothing, you’re waiving the right to sue Sony for related issues to this case.
- Exclude yourself: Excluding yourself from the settlement will allow you to file a separate lawsuit related to this same settlement. You will not receive any of money from the settlement case if you exclude yourself. The deadline to exclude yourself is July 2.
- Object: You are able to object to any or all parts of the settlement. This objection must be served by July 2. Find more information here.
How much will claimants get?
No amount has been listed at this time. There is also no confirmed amount of claimants, but a 2025 Reuters article said the plaintiffs estimated more than 4.4 million people were part of the class action. Funds left over after attorney fees and other expenses will go to claimants.
When payments are expected
It’s far too early to tell. A judge will consider approving the settlement during an Oct. 15 hearing.
