Nearly two years after the Syfy show was canceled, Don Mancini is ready to bring Chucky back from the grave once again.
The creator of the Child’s Play franchise recently announced at Pennsylvania’s Steel City Con that he has a new Chucky movie in the works, which will serve as a continuation of both 2017’s Cult of Chucky and the 2021-’24 series.
“I’m writing a new Chucky movie,” Mancini told the crowd, according to Bloody Disgusting, which also reported that he plans to return to the director’s chair for the upcoming sequel.
Jennifer Tilly, who plays murderous doll Tiffany in the franchise, recently teased to Entertainment Tonight that despite the end of the show, “I know for a fact there is more Chucky and Tiffany in the works. The gruesome twosome.”
Following the news in September 2024 that the Chucky series would end after three seasons, Mancini continued to tease the killer doll’s onscreen future amid a #RenewChucky fan campaign as he and the show’s stars reacted to its cancellation.
“HE’LL BE BACK,” wrote Mancini on X, sharing Deadline’s previous report. “I have so much love for our amazing fans. Your #RenewChucky campaign meant the world to me during a very difficult time. Chucky says to tell all of you, quoting himself: ‘See ya real soon.’”
The cancellation came after Mancini teased that he was “really excited” about his idea for Season 4. “I already pitched it to the network. So fingers crossed because it’s something I really like to do,” he told The Direct.
Premiering in 2021, Chucky follows the murderous escapades of the notorious killer doll. He crosses paths with archenemies, old allies and new prey, as he seeks to inspire fear and mayhem wherever he goes. The show was executive produced by Mancini, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, David Kirschner and Jeff Renfoe.
Mancini launched the slasher franchise with Child’s Play (1988), which he co-wrote with John Lafia and director Tom Holland. He also wrote Childs Play 2 (1990), Child’s Play 3 (1991), Bride of Chucky (1998), Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017), serving as director for the last three installments as well.
