A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in west Houston, and police have detained a suspect who may face charges, says the Houston Police Department.
HOUSTON — A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in west Houston Sunday night, and police say they have now located a suspect in the case.
The crash was reported around 9:18 p.m. near the intersection of Eldridge Parkway and Westheimer Road, according to the Houston Police Department.
Investigators said the woman was hit by an oncoming vehicle and died at the scene. The driver initially did not stop and left the area.
Police later tracked down a suspect, who has been detained and is being questioned. Authorities said the person could face a charge of failure to stop and render aid.
HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division is leading the investigation.
Investigators identified the vehicle involved as a gray Honda Civic with significant windshield damage.
Police said the victim was walking northbound at the time of the crash, possibly in a crosswalk. Investigators are working to confirm that detail as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officers responded to the scene just before 9:30 p.m. and remained in the area for several hours gathering evidence.
Authorities said they are canvassing the area for surveillance video and additional information that could help determine exactly what led up to the crash.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department.
