Video: Dust storm turns skies in Libya bright red

A state of emergency was issued in Tobruk, Libya due to a dust storm which turned the sky an ominous red. Officials warned citizens to use extreme caution and stay home. 

TOBRUK, Libya— A local state of emergency was issued for the city of Tobruk, Libya, after a dust storm turned skies a bright, eerie red.

Video from Tobruk on Wednesday shows the world in a red hue as thick dust blocked the sun.

The Tobruk Municipal Guard Branch issued a state of emergency for Amahid east to Ain Ghazala west and to Al-Jaghboob south due to the weather conditions.

In the video, winds whipped and sirens could be heard in the background. 

As the camera panned around, cars and streets were barely visible due to the dust.

The entire scene appeared apocalyptic in nature, with streetlights barely doing anything to illuminate the area.

Local emergency officials said they were busy trying to prepare for any emergencies that could arise during the severe weather.
