The Disney+ show is one of the few Marvel projects to get a second season.
WASHINGTON — Disney’s “Wonder Man” achieved something unusual for a Marvel television show on Monday with the announcement that it will get a second season.
Stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley will return as Simon and Trevor, along with series co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Cretton also directs “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which will open in theaters on July 31, 2026.
The first season of “Wonder Man,” which debuted on Disney+ with eight episodes in January, followed the unlikely friendship between actors Simon and Trevor Slattery as they both pursue roles in a remake of Simon’s favorite childhood super-hero film “Wonder Man.”
Kingsley has appeared as Trevor Slattery in previous Marvel projects including “Iron Man 3” and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Abdul-Mateen is new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but not to comics adaptations, having previously appeared in DC’s “Aquaman” movies and the TV show “Watchmen.”
“Wonder Man” debuted with 91% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 87% audience score.
It is only the third Marvel live-action television show on Disney+ to get a second season, following “Loki” and “Daredevil: Born Again.” The show “WandaVision” got the spinoff “Agatha All Along,” with another spinoff “Vision Quest” in the works.
