THIS is the horrifying moment a man is trampled by a wild elephant before standing up and walking away.
Footage shows the animal catching the victim unaware as it knocks him over and presses down on his chest with its foot.
The out-of-control beast repeatedly stamps on the victim before abruptly pulling back.
As the elephant strolls off into the bush, the man miraculously gets to his feet and brushes himself down.
According to reports, the man – identified as Vidyadhar Behera – was returning home to his village in rural India when he encountered the animal.
Before he knew it, the elephant attacked and knocked him to the ground.
In the midst of chaos, locals said they heard Behera’s screams and rushed to the scene.
They successfully managed to drive the enraged animal away.
Afterwards, Behera was taken to a nearby hospital, diagnosed with injuries to his legs, hands and head.
While he is currently conscious, he remains in critical condition and undergoing treatment.
In the aftermath, villagers have been advised not to enter forested areas especially during the early morning and evening.
This follows reports of a herd of around 30 elephants currently patrolling the area.
Social worker Debasis Jena claimed the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) has failed to take action to prevent such horrifying incidents from happening.
Jena desperately urged the authorities to implement measures to prevent similar episodes taking place in the future.
Unfortunately, this is the latest in a series of devastating incidents involving unruly elephants.
In February, a herd of rampaging elephants trampled six people to death in one night, including a three-month-old baby.
The victims were killed when a herd of 18 elephants stormed an Indian village as locals slept.
Vikas Kumar Ujjwal, Divisional Forest Officer of Hazaribagh East confirmed the tragic fatalities.
“Among those killed [were] four members of a family,” he said.
“One child was also seriously injured … [and] has been admitted to the Sadar Hospital in Hazaribagh for treatment.”
According to villagers, the herd arrived around midnight and tore through the houses, flattening everything in their way.
“They came suddenly and destroyed everything in their path,” one resident told local media.
