GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A police chase ended in a fatal crash on SH 146 at FM 646 in Texas City Tuesday afternoon, leaving one person dead and three others hospitalized.
According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect who was being pursued by Texas City police died in the crash. Officials have not released the suspect’s name or details about what led to the pursuit.
What happened
Authorities say three vehicles were involved. The suspect’s dark-colored sedan reportedly went around stopped vehicles at a traffic light, then lost control while trying to move into the far lanes. The sedan crashed into a white SUV, flipping it on its side and pushing it into another vehicle pulling a trailer, which later caught fire, according to witnesses.

Road closures and investigation
SH 146 was shut down in both directions for several hours as crews worked the scene. The roads have since reopened.
The three other people injured were taken to area hospitals; their conditions have not been released.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the District Attorney’s Office, is investigating the crash.
