A MUM has appeared in court accused of murdering her newborn baby daughter after she plunged to her death from a window.
The 18-day-old was rushed to hospital following the horror at a residential home in Westminster, central London, on Saturday morning.
Tragically, she could not be saved and was declared dead shortly after.
Zahira Byjaouane has now appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court charged with murder.
The 43-year-old spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing.
She was remanded into custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on March 18.
Byjaouane waved to loved ones in the public gallery as she entered and left the dock of the court.
Police were scrambled to the Peabody Estate at roughly 7.30am on Saturday.
Forensic officers were later seen combing for clues at a window in a flat on the building’s third floor.
Byjaouane was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.
On her LinkedIn profile, Byjaouane says she worked as a clinical co-ordinator in Harley Street between July 2024 and April 2025.
She also claims to have worked as a medical lab assistant in various laboratories, including at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.
The London Ambulance Service said the baby was treated at the scene before being taken to a major trauma centre.
Floral tributes and toys have been left on the street, which is home to government buildings, including the Department for Transport‘s offices, as well as Channel 4‘s headquarters.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the Met’s investigation, said: “The death of an infant is always an extremely tragic occurrence, and officers are making urgent inquiries around the circumstances.
“At this stage, we believe the incident occurred within a domestic context, but we are appealing for anybody with information to come forward.”
Anybody with information can call 101, quoting reference 1596/14MAR.
