Houston police are searching for a suspect after a woman was shot near NRG Park in southwest Houston late Monday night.

HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating a late-night shooting in southwest Houston that left a woman in critical condition just minutes from NRG Park, where thousands of people are in town for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Authorities are now searching for a suspect who witnesses say fled the scene on foot.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday in a parking lot along West Ridge Street, about five minutes from the rodeo grounds.

When officers arrived, police said they found a woman in her 30s sitting in the passenger seat of a car. Investigators say she had been shot once in the neck.

The woman was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

After speaking with witnesses, police say the suspect had been inside the same vehicle before the shooting.

“What we’ve heard so far is the suspect was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle with her and left on foot wearing a, dark color hoodie, and that’s all the information we have at this time,” HPD LT Horelica said. “So if anybody will contact, Crime Stoppers or Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults division, we’d appreciate it.”

Investigators say they are still working to determine a motive and whether the suspect and the woman knew each other.

As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information that could lead to an arrest to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
