It’s supposed to promote gender equality and female empowerment, but Maya Jama spent some of International Women’s Day defending herself from online abuse.

The Love Island presenter hit back on Sunday after one social media troll drew commented on her recently posted bikini snaps and made a barbed comment about her former relationship with grime artist Stormzy.

‘I’ll never understand people saying she’s peng ever in my life genuinely think she’s dead it’s insane to me,’ [sic] he wrote beneath two images of Jama, 31, modelling a tan coloured swimwear set.

Hitting back with a series of comments that have since been removed, the presenter, currently dating Manchester City midfielder Ruben Dias, replied: ‘Look, I know this is the highlight of your year, but I promise you, once you finally convince someone to be in a relationship with you, you’ll finally understand that a woman having an ex doesn’t mean she was running through people. Enjoy your day swell head.’

The reply sparked a terse exchange, during which her anonymous critic referenced Stormzy and labelled her ‘insecure for allowing one comment to ruin her day.’

He added: ‘I have 4 kids my heart don’t be mad at me like I said you f***ed Stormzy your insecurities run deep your so pretty but no wedding no kids just bare exes.’ [sic]

‘Nope, not ruined my day. It’s quite amusing,’ she replied. ‘I feel sorry for your 4 kids that this is how their dad spends his Sunday though, go and take them to the park and get some fresh air.’

The exchange comes after Jama and her footballer boyfriend were forced to ramp up security at their £4million Cheshire home following a burglary.

The couple were left ‘devastated’ after thieves ransacked their mansion in January, during which Dias was playing away against Galatasaray in the Champions League  and Jama was in South Africa for Love Island: All Stars.

Burglars made off with thousands of pounds worth of items including designer clothes, jewellery and electronics, according to reports.

Now, the couple have decided to strengthen security at their property by paying for a Strongbox 24-hour security team to live in the garden – despite having ‘state of the art security systems’.

‘The couple asked a security firm to come in and assess the property and the suggestion was that having live-in round the clock guards would act as a great deterrent, a source told The Sun.

‘Lots of footballers have private fitness coaches, chefs, drivers – and now are adding security guards to the list.’

On the day of the targeted attack, Dias reportedly raised the alarm after returning home from the away game and discovering the house had been turned upside down with valuable items missing.

A source told The Sun: ‘They are devastated, the house is the first they have moved into as a couple and is very special to them. Thankfully, neither was at home, but they are very upset that their personal space has been invaded.

‘Maya was very proud to move into her first home with Ruben and took lots of videos and pictures while in the house which she posted on her social media.

‘Previously in their relationship, she was back and forth from London and he was living in a city centre flat. That’s why this property means so much to them.’

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told Daily Mail: ‘Shortly after 11.10pm on Wednesday 28 January, police received reports of a burglary at an address in Woodbrook Road, Alderley Edge.’

They added:’Officers attended and found entry had been made to the property and a number of items had been stolen.

‘Enquiries are currently ongoing and anyone with any information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or through the website.’
