TWO well-loved face creams have been recalled over concerns some ingredients that could affect the health of an unborn child.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) urgently recalled the two face creams because they posed “serious chemical risk.”
Creams affected are the Glow & Lovely Hydraglow Rose Enrich Serum Cream 50g and Glow & Lovely Advanced Multi Vitamin Serum in Cream.
OPSS said the latter was recalled because it could contain the chemical compound Butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA).
The chemical is not allowed in cosmetic products in the UK because it could “harm the reproductive system or the health of the unborn child and may cause skin sensitisation,” per the OPSS.
The Rose Enrich Serum was recalled because it posed a “serious chemical risk as the ingredients list had incorrect ingredients listed and had not specified fragrance allergens.” It also did not comply with cosmetic regulations.
“Consumers who are sensitive to certain allergens are not informed and may experience an adverse effect.”
For both creams, the OPSS advised for users to “stop using this product immediately and contact the distributor to request redress.”
The serums were largely available online but the OPSS confirmed they have been completely removed from sale by distributor Lajawab Foods Limited.
The latest recall comes just hours after superstar singer Rihanna’s perfume was also recalled over a chemical that could pose a danger for users.
UK retailer Savers issued the warning, which applies to two products from the singer’s 15ml line.
The following product names and barcodes are included in the product recall:
- Rihanna Kiss 15ml EDP, barcode: 0608940572252
- Rihanna Riri 15ml ECP, barcode: 0608940560389
The recall, which was officially issued on Tuesday, March 3, detailed the possible inclusion of hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde and butylphenyl methylpropional in the fragrances.
Both of these chemicals are prohibited from sale in the UK and the EU.
The chemicals, also known as Lyral and Lilial, were banned in December 2022 because their use has been associated with harm to the reproductive system, as well as harming unborn babies.
Customers have been advised to return any of the affected products to their local Savers store for a full refund.
