Texas court documents reveal that singer D4vd is under investigation by a Los Angeles grand jury tied to a teen’s death, according to CBS News.
LOS ANGELES — Court documents filed in Texas show that singer and songwriter D4vd is the target of a Los Angeles grand jury investigation connected to the death of a teenage girl, according to reporting by CBS News.
CBS News reports that Dawud and Colleen Burke, the parents of D4vd, whose legal name is David Burke, are fighting subpoenas ordering them to testify before a Los Angeles County grand jury. The singer’s brother, Caleb Burke, was also summoned to appear.
The documents became public as part of filings in a Texas Court of Appeals case tied to the family’s legal challenge.
According to CBS News, the grand jury investigation comes months after the remains of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez were discovered Sept. 8 inside the trunk of a Tesla registered in Burke’s name at a Hollywood tow yard.
Court records state the remains were found “severely decomposed” and dismembered. Police were called to the tow yard after reports of a foul odor attracting flies, and investigators later located a cadaver bag containing a decomposed head and torso inside the vehicle. Additional body parts were found in another bag, records show.
Authorities say Burke has not been named as a suspect. However, court documents identify him as a target of the grand jury investigation into Rivas Hernandez’s death, according to CBS News.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department previously confirmed the teen had been reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California, more than a year earlier. A missing-person flyer states she was last seen leaving her home on April 5, 2024.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed earlier that Rivas Hernandez and Burke had been involved in a romantic relationship, though investigators have not publicly detailed the nature or length of that relationship.
CBS News reports that Burke, 20, was performing on his “Withered 2025 World Tour” when authorities publicly identified the victim. He canceled a scheduled Seattle performance the same day, followed by additional tour cancellations.
Court filings also state investigators believe Burke’s mother played a significant role in managing the singer’s career and business finances, and documents describe both parents as having a close relationship with their son.
The investigation remains ongoing.
