Daniel Radcliffe Doesn’t Want New ‘Harry Potter’ Cast To Be Asked About Original Cast To Not Be “Weird Spectral Phantoms”

Daniel Radcliffe is looking out for the new Harry Potter cast and suggests fans not ask about the original cast.

The actor portrayed The Boy Who Lived across eight films, which were adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s book series. As HBO embarks on a new adaptation, now as a series, Radcliffe wants the kids to have their own experience as they take on these characters.

Following the casting of the kids for the Harry Potter series, Radcliffe pointed out that people on social media came to a consensus to “look after these kids,” telling ScreenRant, “If everyone really means that … one of the things you can do for me is not ask about us — me, Emma [Watson], Rupert [Grint] — all the time.”

“I would like not to be a weird spectral phantoms in these children’s lives and just to let them get on … because it’s going to be a new thing and it’s going to be a different thing,” he added.

Dominic McLaughlin was cast as Harry Potter, while Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione, and Alastair Stour will play Ron.

Radcliffe said that he was sure McLaughlin “is going to be better than me and better than I was,” in the titled role, adding that he hopes the kids “have the best time” filming the series.

Last year, Radcliffe revealed he sent a letter to McLaughlin after he was cast as Harry Potter, telling him, “I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time.”

In the interview with Good Morning America, Radcliffe said, “I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them. They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that at that age.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet, and I hope they’re having a great time.”
