Bridgerton‘s Ruth Gemmell has shared a rare insight into her home life after marrying ‘an old friend’ 11 years ago – following her high-profile divorce from Ray Stevenson.

The British actress, 58, who portrays Violet Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series, quietly tyied the knot with her husband in 2015 and moved from her east London home to his small village in the Midlands.

She gushed that it is ‘lovely being married to a man who isn’t an actor’ and enjoys ‘gardening and walks’ remaining out of the public eye.

‘I have become a sleepy old country bumpkin,’ she told The Telegraph. ‘I like gardening, I like bird watching and nice walks and going to the pub.

‘It’s also lovely being married to a man who isn’t an actor, and going to the theatre with someone who says, ‘Wasn’t that good?’ rather than, ‘Why wasn’t I seen for that part?’

Ruth divorced Irish actor Ray in 2005 after eight years of marriage, following meeting on the set of the TV drama Band of Gold in 1995.

The Thor actor died on May 21, 2023, at age 58, just four days before his 59th birthday.

He passed away in Italy after being hospitalised while filming the action movie Cassino in Ischia.

As Bridgerton returned to Netflix this week – and the Regency-era romance drama is back with more heat than ever with plenty of saucy scenes set to set viewers’ pulses racing.

And this time it’s not just Ruth’s character Violet’s children who have love interests as she enjoys nighttime ‘tea; with Lady Danbury’s brother Marcus.

Around 52 minutes into the fourth episode, Violet has love interest Marcus over for a romantic rendezvous.

The evening for the pair is organised with the help of Mrs Wilson, the unflappable housekeeper played by Geraldine Alexander.

And while Marcus is keen to ‘take things slowly’ with their blossoming romance, it doesn’t take long for Violet insists he ‘gets undressed’.

The couple are then seen smiling widely side by side in bed, before sharing yet another passionate kiss with one another.

With only four episodes of its new series released earlier this week, the next four are due to arrive on February 26.

The series shines a spotlight on Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton, the free-spirited second eldest brother of the Bridgerton family, as he finds love with Sophie (Yerin Ha), the illegitimate daughter of an Earl forced into servitude.

It will also see the return of series three couple, Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan’s Colin and Penelope.

And with all the love in the air, it will come as no surprise to viewers that the new series is set to be packed with steamy scenes, that puts ‘the sin into Cinderella’.
