Harris County Constable Precinct 2 Deputies pursued a young man 30 miles before he crashed into a parked vehicle and a residence.
HOUSTON — A late-night traffic violation in southeast Houston turned into a lengthy pursuit after a driver refused to stop for deputies with the Harris County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, authorities said.
Night shift deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop after observing a vehicle run a red light. Instead of pulling over, the constable’s office said the driver sped away, leading deputies on a chase that lasted about 30 minutes and covered more than 30 miles.
The pursuit ended when the driver crashed into an unoccupied parked car and then crashed into a residence in southeast Houston. No one inside the home was injured, officials said.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Garcia-Salazar, was treated for minor cuts and bruises at the scene. He was later charged with evading in a motor vehicle and booked into the Joint Processing Center without incident.
The constable’s office said fleeing from law enforcement puts others at risk and urged drivers to comply during traffic stops to avoid dangerous situations.
Deputies said they remain committed to protecting the community and keeping local roadways safe.
