(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump will travel the country weekly to rally Republican support ahead of November’s pivotal midterm elections, according to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.
The president will make his first stop in Iowa next Tuesday, where he will address his economic agenda, Wiles told reporters this week.
Trump’s aggressive travel plans come one year into his presidency, as fresh polling suggests a growing disconnect between the White House and voters on the economy.
While Trump won’t be on the ballot in November, Republicans view him as their best messenger on the economy and plan to use him to win over skeptical voters.
Polling reveals Americans divided on Trump’s economy
A recent New York Times–Siena poll shows 51% of Americans believe the president’s policies have made everyday life less affordable.
Additionally, the polling revealed 41% believe the economy is worse now than a year ago, and 38% described the nation’s economic conditions as “poor.”
On Tuesday, Trump acknowledged his administration was having trouble selling his economic wins, at one point saying it could be the result of “bad public relations people.”
“Fake and Fraudulent Polling should be, virtually, a criminal offense,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday following the release of the polls.
Cabinet officials to ramp up domestic travel
Wiles told reporters that Cabinet members will also be increasing their domestic travel in the coming months in preparation for the midterms.
Vice President JD Vance delivered remarks in Toledo, Ohio, on Thursday, arguing that the economy is still recovering from the Biden administration.
“I have a very simple question. One year into this great American recovery — do we want to go back to the failed policies of the Biden-Harris administration? No, we don’t. So let’s keep doubling down on American prosperity,” he said.
